Phayao Lake, known as Kwam Phayao in Thai, is an artificial lake located at 380 meters above sea level in Phayao Province of Thailand. It is one of the most well known attractions in Phayao. The lake covers an area of 2.3 square kilometers and has an average depth of 1.7 meters. The town of Phayao is located on the southeast side of the lake.

The lake is fed by two rivers. The main river that pours its waters into the lake is Ing River while the second river is Tam River. Just to south and west of the lake are rice and paddy fields. As the Ing River empties in the northern part of the lake, it forms a marshy area which is home to a number of plants and animals.

Given that the lake is made up of fresh water, it is home to a lot of aquatic plants and animals. The lates has around 22 species of fish and the most dominant species are the Tilapia and Climbing Perch, which were introduced artificially into the lake. In addition, there are 47 species of birds that call Lake Phayao their home.

Kwam Phayao was created in 1939 with the view of improving the irrigation in the surrounding areas. Today, it is more than a lake for irrigation purposes. It considered to one of the most important wetland areas in Thailand. In northern part of Thailand, it is the biggest fresh water repository of fish. In order to protect the environment of the lake, no motor boats are allowed.
